Rub-a-dub-dub, I’ve got some jungle animals in my tub! This week we’re washing animals with a toothbrush in my sensory bin! Just add soap and water– and have a towel nearby for some inevitable splashing! This activity takes up the entire 30-minute session and kids do not want to stop! We’ve targeted so many different speech and language goals! Look below for some ideas! Then grab your own bin, animals, and toothbrush and give this activity a try this week!
Requesting: “more,” “want,” “I want,” “give me,” “I want tiger,” “I want monkey,” “Can I have elephant?” Vocabulary development: Animal names, “brush,” “soap,” “water,” “bath,” “towel,” “wash,” “wet,” “uh-oh,” “in,” “out” Verbs: “wash,” “dry,” “scrub,” “wipe,” “squirt,” “splash,” “washing” Adjectives/describing: “dirty,” “stinky,” “clean,” “spots,” “stripes,” “bumpy,” Inferencing: I hid animals in an opaque container and gave the child clues about which animal was inside and had them guess. For example, “It’s a brown animal. It lives in the jungle. It eats bananas. What is it?” Then they got to wash it! Describing: Describe each animal before, after, or while you wash it! Click here to download my super helpful describing anchor chart for only $1! Make sure to laminate it so it doesn’t get wet! Following directions: “Put in,” “Get the lion,” “Show me the alligator,” “Take it out,” “Wash the giraffe”
These animals are perfect for this activity because they are designed to be bath toys. If you squeeze them, they even squirt out water! I’ve linked them for you here, along with some cheaper alternatives.
Love this idea! Where are these cute animals from?
Thank you! The animals are from TJ Maxx, I believe. I would search Amazon for animal bath toys and I’m sure you’ll find lots of cute options! 😊
